Eligibility Criteria
You must fulfill the following requirements to be eligible for the Hamburg University Academic Excellence Scholarship:
- Status as an International Student: You must be an international student enrolled at HAW Hamburg. Additionally, you must have obtained your higher education admission qualification outside of Germany or completed preparatory study in a German university.
- Enrollment Status: To be eligible for a master’s degree at HAW Hamburg, you must have completed at least one semester and two semesters for a bachelor’s degree.
- Standard Study Period: Also referred to as the Allgemeine Regelstudienzeit, the standard study period is when you should be enrolled in your degree program.
- Academic Performance: You must have a minimum average grade of 2.2 and continuously succeed academically.
- Limitations on Government Assistance: You are not eligible to receive BAföG or any other form of government assistance at the time of your application.
Hamburg University Academic Excellence Scholarship Application Process
Required Documents
You must collect and submit a number of papers using the Mobility Online Application Portal in order to apply for the Excellence Scholarship. The necessary documents are listed below:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV): A two-page CV that highlights your extracurricular and academic accomplishments.
- Certificate of Enrollment: The myHAW portal offers this certificate for purchase.
- Present Transcript: Your average grade and the total number of credit points you have accrued must be listed on your transcript. Following the application deadline, the International Office will ask for this information from students in the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (with the exception of those in Automotive Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering).
- ID or resident permit: While EU students may present a copy of their ID card or passport, non-EU students must present a copy of their residency permit.
- Bank Account Information: A document that provides your bank account information for scholarship payments.
- Financial Circumstances Form: Details about your financial circumstances.
- Letters of Recommendation: Two letters of recommendation from professors in your degree program are required if this is your first time applying. Your lecturers should send these letters straight to the International Office’s email address, io_scholarships@haw-hamburg.de.
Once you have gathered all the necessary documents, upload them to the application portal (Mobility Online) ahead of the deadline. Make sure to give yourself ample time to complete this process. After the deadline, we will review your application and inform you of the results within four weeks.
